The Inhabited Void: Monofloor at Edifício Anchieta

In the mezzanine of a São Paulo modernist landmark, a store transforms into a sensory journey where void becomes matter.

Nestled in the mezzanine of Edifício Anchieta, in the Consolação neighborhood, the new Monofloor Store emerges within a historic piece of São Paulo's modernism. Designed by the MMM Roberto brothers in 1941, the building carries the symbolic weight of something that has traversed decades without losing relevance, and now gains a use that doesn't attempt to compete with this memory, but to recontextualize it.

The intervention starts from a simple yet powerful decision: to redesign the internal boundaries and make the journey evident. Rather than a merely exhibition space, the store organizes itself as an experience. A clear and dynamic path guides visitors through different moments, stitched together by the element that unifies everything: a blue monofloor executed in STELION, which imprints identity and creates a continuous base for the eye to wander without interruption.

Detail of mobile cabinets with samples

The layout was conceived to transform samples into real contact, not distant display. Monolithic blocks function as landmarks in the space, creating stopping points and comparison opportunities. Mobile cabinets with samples reinforce the idea of the store as a tool for choice, where the material is not merely seen but handled, brought close to the light, confronted with the surroundings and with the building's own architecture.

Curved partitions organizing the space

Inside, new curved partitions organize the environment without hardening the journey. They create purposeful detours and less obvious paths, keeping the floor plan permeable and encouraging discoveries. The seating area follows this design and acts as an invitation to linger, as if the space were saying that the visit doesn't need to be quick, nor technical. It can be calm. It can be conversation.

Materials and modern furniture enter with precision, without excess and without noise. The choice reinforces an elegant environment, deliberate in every detail, aligned with the brand's identity. The gesture is contemporary but not aggressive: everything exists to support the monolithic experience while respecting the building's original structure.

Opening a store inside the Anchieta is also an urban statement. Monofloor now occupies one of the city's most iconic buildings, on the axis that functions as the metropolis's spinal column: Avenida Paulista. Along its length, history unfolds in layers, with signatures that shaped Brazil's architectural imagination.

Designed by Felipe Hess Arquitetos, the project places history and innovation within the same frame: a space that holds time while pointing to what comes next. The blue STELION emerges as both technology and language, a coating that doesn't merely seek to cover, but to build atmosphere, presence, and unity.

The space is now open for visits. And, as the city loves these perfect coincidences, the equally iconic Bar Riviera happens to be its immediate neighbor. Perhaps the opening will end with a toast, the way São Paulo deserves.
